Until December 31st, 2011 Mr. Malloy was a Managing Director of Massey Quick & Co., Inc. Mr. Malloy was the Head of their Denver, Colorado office and a member of the Investment Committee. He participated in the development and implementation of asset allocation strategies and manager due diligence. Mr. Malloy has extensive experience in alternative investments, the family office and wealth management industries. Prior to joining Massey Quick he served as a Managing Principal of Boston-based Shepherd Kaplan LLC where his responsibilities included running the firm’s Denver practice as well as multiple aspects of the firm’s investment committee and investment committee governance process. These functions included; asset allocation, manager sourcing, evaluation and due diligence, with a particular emphasis on the alternative investment asset classes, including; Hedge Funds, Funds of Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Venture Capital and Real Estate. Mr. Malloy has 30 years of experience in alternative investments, family investment office management and wealth management industries. Previous to SK LLC Mr. Malloy was an initial investor in, and the Director of Business Strategy & Development for, WisdomTree Asset Management, Inc. WisdomTree has developed the first family of fundamentally-weighted dividend and earnings indexes and ETFs. WisdomTree also attracted a talented group of industry veterans as initial investors and to its Board of Directors, including Professor Jeremy Siegel of The Wharton School, James Robinson III of RRE Ventures, Arthur Levitt [ex-Chairman of the SEC] and legendary investor Michael Steinhardt, the Founder and initial investor in WisdomTree.
In 1992, Mr. Malloy was approached by one of his clients, TAG Associates, Ltd. (“TAG”), to join the firm as a principal and shareholder with the mandate to build a portfolio and wealth management platform focusing on alternative investment strategies. He joined as a Senior Managing Director and the Chief Investment Officer of TAG, the TAG Portfolio Management Group and developed TAG’s Fund of Hedge Funds product, the TAG Relative Value Fund, LP. To this day, TAG provides comprehensive family office and wealth management services to over 60 family and super high net worth clients. At the time of its sale in 2002, TAG had over $4 billion in liquid assets under management with over $35 billion in client net worth. Malloy was responsible for all aspects of the investment process, with particular emphasis on asset allocation and the evaluation and monitoring of hedge fund managers. After the sale of TAG in 2002, Mr. Malloy served as a managing member and principal of a boutique hedge fund services firm. A large part of his daily activities again focused on his duties as co-Chief Investment Officer of the Fund of Funds, Custom Portfolio Strategy and a Hedge Fund incubation business.
Prior to TAG, Mr. Malloy began his career in 1982 with the Corporate and Executive Services Group of Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc. In 1989, he joined a private merchant bank to assist a large family office with the management of their alternative investment portfolios. In 1991, he joined Oppenheimer & Co as a Senior Vice President in order to develop its alternative investment management platform.
Mr. Malloy has been a frequent speaker at alternative investment and family office conferences and is the author of several articles on alternative investment strategies and the wealth management process. He has been a “Leadership Council Member” of The Institute for Private Investors and sits on the Boards of Alpha Financial Technologies LLC, VII Peaks Capital LLC and Circle Peak Capital LLC. He also sits on the National Board of Trustees of National Jewish Health based in Denver, Colorado and The Heuga Center for MS in Vail, Colorado. In the past Mr. Malloy has sat on the Boards of; The Hedge Fund Association and Outward Bound USA. He is an Associate General Partner of his family’s Real Estate Holding Company in New York City. He attended Villanova University and the Harvard Business School Executive MBA program.
